Gertrude Hermes ‘Peacock’ restoration, Ordsall, Salford, England, 2018-19

I’m thrilled to be working on a very special project – the restoration and re-siting of a remarkable historic sculpture, ‘Peacock’ by renowned sculptor Gertrude Hermes (1901-83).  This beautiful Bronze sculpture was originally commissioned in 1961 by the then Salford Corporation (now Salford City Council) and was sited outside Ordsall Girls’ School. The school was demolished some time ago; the intervening years having seen many changes in Ordsall – a community shaped for many years by the adjacent Salford Docks, now Salford Quays.  I have been commissioned by Ordsall Community Arts to restore this beautiful work and re-site it in a new location at Primrose Hill primary school in the heart of Ordsall.  The project is due for completion in early 2019 and I’ll be posting more information as the project progresses.
