Sinew

Two kilometres of steel rod – a sinous, muscular form, a play of interior and exterior sculptural form, a complex curved shell, dotted with tiny bronzecastings.

This sculptural piece developed through a process of hand bending and layering Steel rod in order to build up a complex curved form which describes a single sheet of curved metal, a wall wrapping around a void which can provide shelter or a small place for contemplation. The repeated bending and cross-welding of the thin steel rod allows for a form which is very sinuous and graceful, apparently top heavy, but in fact incredibly strong and secure. It incorporates 33 small bronzecastings which I made with school pupils.
